Please join together as we work to change the world around us. On Wednesday, November 17th we are presenting several exciting proposals and works in progress as we launch our Health Equity Grant. Presentations for November 17th will be made in zoom format with time for comment/suggestion and general awareness of the work we all have to do together to improve our field, our communities, and the lives of our patients and colleagues.
The presentations of works in progress/proposals will be about 5 min each with some time for discussion for each.
Scheduled presentations include:
- Eseosa Odigie (Cornell Medical Student): "Health Literacy and Quality Assessment of Mobile Applications for Voice and Swallowing Therapy”
- Geneva Mayne (Kean University SLP): "An Investigation Into the Relationship Between Social Determinants of Health and Functional Voice Disorders"
- Ross Mayerhoff (Henry Ford Laryngologist) "Assessment and analysis of health disparities among patients with a tracheostomy at an urban tertiary care hospital"
- Mariah Morton (Auburn University Doctoral Candidate): "Characterizing vocal health and voice care access for rural Black Americans in Alabama"
There is still time to send in a Letter of Intent - this deadline has been extended to December 1st. Please address it to email@example.com
or send questions if you are not sure.
The LEF HEG is to support endeavors that increase understanding and awareness of how racial disparities impact Laryngology and Speech-Language Pathology care in the US, specifically for patients of the Black diaspora (African American, Black American, Caribbean American, Afro-Latinx, etc.), and initiatives that address these disparities in our communities. The grant is for one year as a starter and provides $10,000 from our community and the foundation.
The LEF HEG will expand into other areas of focus in the future. Please join me in working together to make a difference TODAY.
